The Day After, Reid Still Unhappy With Eagles Effort
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Andy Reid reviewed Tuesday night’s 24-14 loss to the Vikings today, and his diagnosis was pretty similar to what he said immediately after the game.
“We have no excuses for this game. Again it’s my responsibility to get our team to play better than what they did. Plenty of things we can learn from it, we will do that.”
The loss last night dropped the Eagles to 10-5 on the season and it also locked them into the #3 playoff seed, meaning they won’t get a first round bye. It also means that Sunday’s regular season finale against the Cowboys at the Linc becomes basically a glorified preseason game.
Reid talks about whether or not resting starters is a consideration:
“You’ve got to look at what’s at stake if you play them, injury wise. Some guys need the playing time, some guys need the rest time. So I’ve got to look at who those guys are and what situations I put them in and so on. But at the same time you want to win the game.”
As for injuries, Reid says QB Michael Vick did suffer a quad contusion last night on the game’s first play and that it is still painful today. Would Vick be one of the players Reid would look to sit?
“I’m not even sure he could get back from what he’s got here with the quad, it’s pretty sore right now. I’ve got to look at that. I mean he would be one you would have to look at to see what you do there.”
Reid also said that DT Trevor Laws suffered a shoulder sprain, an AC sprain and a chest contusion last night. DL Geoff Owens tore his patella tendon and will have surgery.
Asante Samuel has a sore knee, Reid says he underwent an MRI today and that it looked good.
