PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Members of the Philadelphia Police Department prepped, packed and delivered more than 400 Thanksgiving dinner boxes Tuesday morning for families across all 20 police districts in the city.

This is the department’s 58th annual Operation Thanksgiving. Each delivery comes with a 12- to 16-pound turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, long grain rice, corn muffin mix, cake mix and gravy.

Each box also includes a note from Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel. He was at the center of the assembly line Tuesday as officers filled boxes one by one.

“This is about giving,” he said. “It’s just a really exciting time for us, for the community relations and all our teams to get together. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the community.”

Police department employees donated more than $12,000 for this year’s effort, and Browns Super Stores chipped in nearly $1,400.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Kids’ attention spans are short, so watching many quick clips on YouTube or TikTok can be an easy time fill, but advertisements that come along with them can be unsavory and the algorithm may introduce them to unwanted themes.

Sherri Hope Culver, author of “The Quality Question: Why Children’s Media Must Aim High,” a report recently published by Temple University’s Center for Media and Information Literacy, says that’s why it’s important to find things relevant to children’s lives.

“... That show characters that reflect who they are and the issues that are important to them, that show them the world around them and help them empathize with that world — understand that world a little bit more,” Culver said.

The Philadelphia Eagles are flying away with first place in the NFC East following a 26-18 victory over the Washington Commanders.

It wasn't pretty, but Philadelphia got the job done to improve to 8-2 on the season. The Commanders dropped to 7-4 and theirs dreams of becoming division champions are beginning to fade. Thursday night didn't look like a battle for first place, but rather an ode to the days of the "NFC Least."

Changing The Symbolism Of The Color Black

I am Van Stone, author and syndicated columnist, and I invite people from all intercultural backgrounds to join the Van Stone Productions Foundation. My hope is that, through the media, I can teach men, women, and children the importance of joining the organization Van Stone Productions Foundation (VSP) which helps to define the color “black.” I had exactly what VSP members were looking for when I used the admired works of Dr. Seuss’, “My Many Colored Days” to come up with the “Expression of Black” in the color black.

I assign colors to moods and emotions as was Dr. Seuss’ signature. VSP brings colors (nationalities), images (crafts), and partnerships (personal gender relationships) together as one family/community. I believe that black means happy. I like to say, "The thoughts of happy men generate good company for positive people."

"Unfortunately the color of black has been blamed for many tragedies. Such as dressing in black during school shootings, being black-listed or black-balled, evil, etc.," I'd also say, "The color black has been synonymous with many negative things and subconsciously the color black creates negative thoughts for many people.

I desire that the color black be re-designed and created in a whole new expression, just like green is for earth day, blue is for jean day, silver is for a 25th anniversary.

I have created a PEACE DAY for the wearing of the color black to stop unduly influencing people with the symbolism of the color black having negative connotations. On PEACE DAYS, all days are great for reading, honoring grandparents, doing any type of planting, telling close friends that you are glad to have them as a real friend, and hanging out in your library.
