Nutter Recognizes One Marathoner’s Inspirational Life
vember 19, 2010 4:20 PMPHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The 17th annual Philadelphia Marathon takes place this Sunday, with a record 23,000 runners expected to participate.
At the kickoff ceremony on Friday, some marathon runners shared their inspirational stories.
Mayor Nutter presented the first ever “High Five” award to marathon participant Kathleen Boyle Wrigley (at lectern in photo), sister of slain Philadelphia police officer Danny Boyle, who lost his life almost two decades ago.
“We wanted to present the award to somebody who embodies the courage that makes every finisher a hero,” Nutter said, “and proves that the journey to the starting line is every bit as important as crossing the finishing line.”
