Phila. Fire Dept. Opens Door to the Past
The Philadelphia Fire Department celebrated its 139th birthday by opening an 85-year-old time capsule at the Fireman's Hall Museum in Old City.
The capsule was sealed in 1925. And sealed quite well:
"Like everything they built in the old days, I mean, it was a copper box," and soldered shut, says Fire fighter and museum curator Harry Magee. "So it was a heck of a job. Rescue 1, we brought them in, because they have the know how and they know how to be careful and they have the tools."
