Sydney Umeri going coast-to-coast
Mikayla Reese of Colorado Springs, Colo., has upped her game and has landed some new scholarship offers in recent weeks.
Even as high school and college ball cruises into the heart of the all-important conference schedule and then heads toward playoffs, the recruiting scene never takes any time off. As always, there were several developments on the recruiting trail this week.
Umeri talks upcoming visits
Sydney Umeri of Acworth, Ga., is a consensus top recruit in the class of 2013 and is currently ranked No. 19 overall in the ESPNU HoopGurlz Super 60. The junior forward, who attends The Lovett School (Atlanta, Ga.), was a member of the U16 national team and has more than held her own on the summer circuit. This season, Umeri is off to a solid start as her Lovett team is 15-3 as the season gets deeper into league play. Umeri has received interest from a number of schools from around the country and is starting to plan visits and get deeper into the process. In the spring, Umeri plans to make an unofficial visit to Stanford and hopes to plan trips to Harvard and Virginia in the upcoming months as well.

Lockhart and Johnson take visits
Juniors Diamond Lockhart of Red Oak (Texas) and Roshunda Johnson of Park View (Little Rock, Ark.) will have some of the biggest shoes to fill in the country this summer. As the next point guards in line for one of the most accomplished summer programs in the country, Lockhart and Johnson will follow behind the likes of Odyssey Sims (Baylor), Moriah Jefferson (Connecticut signee) and Jordan Jones (Texas A&M signee) as lead guards for the DFW T-Jack club program. While this duo will look to continue that success this summer, they have been busy making visits to some of the country's top basketball programs. Lockhart, the No. 42-ranked player in the class of 2013, has made trips to Baylor and TCU and is planning to visit Kansas and Texas Tech in the upcoming months. Johnson, the No. 50 player, has taken visits to Baylor and Arkansas and is eyeing trips to Kentucky and Oklahoma State.

Bevillard chooses Florida State
Gabby Bevillard of Oconee County (Watkinsville, Ga.) watched her stock climb throughout the 2011 club season. A 6-foot-3 power forward, Bevillard has a versatile game with the ability to score the basketball facing the basket. That versatility led to the three-star prospect receiving multiple scholarship offers from top programs. After taking several unofficial visits during the fall football season, the junior decided to make her college decision, pledging to Florida State and coach Sue Semrau earlier this week. She chose the Seminoles over Florida, Georgia and North Carolina State. Her decision gives the ACC program its second commitment in the junior class after the Seminoles picked up No. 51 Shanae Armbrister of Dania Beach, Fla., in the fall. The Seminoles have four juniors on their roster and appear to have room for four, if not five, players in what should be a signature class in Tallahassee.

Reese picks up interest
Mikayla Reese of Sand Creek (Colorado Springs, Colo.), had a busy offseason, including time at the USA Basketball 16-and-under national team trials and the Elite Basketball Academy All-American Camp in Atlanta. All the work is paying off as the class of 2014 combo guard, who has been watch-listed by HoopGurlz, has picked up scholarship offers from Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, UTEP and Washington State within the last month. The 5-8 Reese plans to visit several of the teams on her list, including East Coast schools such as Georgia Tech, after her season comes to a close.
