The walls of the Society Hill Playhouse at 8th and South Streets are covered in nostalgic evidence of the decades of productions that graced its stage.
“When we started there were no theaters like this,” says Deen Cogan, director of the playhouse.
She and her late husband, Jay, founded the playhouse in 1959. The curtains opened in 1960 and since then the stage has hosted hundreds of plays like “The Blacks” and “School House Rock.”
