Eagles Vs. Redskins: Redskins Fall 20-13

The Washington Redskins suffered a painful loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at home today. The final score read Philadelphia 20, Washington 13, but the reality of the loss was much worse.

The headline of the game is that starting quarterback Rex Grossman got benched after throwing four interceptions. Backup quarterback John Beck came into the game and scored the Redskins lone touchdown on a nifty quarterback sneak run near the goal line. Beck missed some throws, but he played exponentially better than Grossman. Beck's speed helped the Redskin cause on numerous times while he was on the field. In less than a half of football, Beck passed for almost as many yards as Grossman, had almost the same amount of completions, and most importantly he had none of the turnovers Grossman is so prone to produce.

Besides the change at quarterback, the Redskins also suffered major injury setbacks. Two starting offensive linemen were lost for the day. Kory Lichtensteiger will miss the remainder of year with a severe knee injury. Left tackle Trent Williams left the game with an ankle injury, though the severity is unknown. Tight end and fan favorite Chris Cooley left the game with a broken finger.

The Redskin defense played relatively well after the first quarter. The defense pitched a shutout in the second half of the game and got good pressure on Eagles quarterback Michael VIck. Safety Oshiomogho Atogwe played his best game in a Redskin uniform, making plays and registering an interception.

In an interesting turn, Tim Hightower did not hit the field for the Redskins. The starter at the beginning of the year, Hightower may be battling injuries or losing carries to Roy Helu and Ryan Torain. Neither player did much in the game, producing less than 40 yards rushing.
