Stars Changing Course
Amanda Moore will be hoping to ride the wave of recent success at Florida Gulf Coast, which was one of the best shooting teams in the nation last year.Amanda Moore will take her sharp shooting to Florida Gulf Coast, but fellow 2012 prospects Destinie Gibbs and Brittany Webb are still looking for new homes.
Destinie Gibbs of Powder Springs, Ga., just finished leading her McEachern High School team to an undefeated season, a Class AAAAA State title and a No. 2 national ranking in the POWERADE FAB 50. As her season came to a close, so did coach Renee Ladner's tenure at Mississippi, causing Gibbs to ask for a release from the National Letter of Intent that she signed in November.
The 5-foot-10 four-star power wing has two official visits remaining and has already heard from Memphis, Mississippi State and Syracuse, among others. With the limited amount of quality perimeter players available this late in recruiting, that list only figures to grow until Gibbs makes her final decision.
Moore switches coasts
Amanda Moore of Seymour, Ind., signed with Loyola Marymount during the early signing period. After a postseason coaching change, the three-star prospect asked for and received a release from her National Letter of Intent. Moore immediately became one of the nation's best available shooters and had varied interest from multiple schools, including Evansville, Indiana and Tennessee-Martin.
In the end, the 5-9 shooting guard chose Florida Gulf Coast, joining Spiece Gym Rats Riego club teammate Bethany Murrell, who signed in the fall. FGCU made a splash this season by winning the Atlantic Sun to secure the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history.
Webb re-opens recruitment
A club teammate of Moore's, Brittany Webb of Indianapolis, Ind., signed with Indiana in the early signing period. A six-win season for the Hoosiers led to coach Felicia Legette-Jack's termination, and Webb has decided to go in a different direction for college. At 5-3, Webb is a dynamic, albeit small, point guard. She just re-opened her recruitment on Wednesday morning and would be a great pickup for a Division I school still in the hunt for a pass-first floor general.
