Bears vs Eagles: Chicago wins in a tight game
Just after everybody thought that the Philadelphia Eagles were going to oblivion because of a slow start, coach Andy Reid discovered a way to be alive in the competition and the team has responded for two consecutive victories.
With the early expectations that the Eagles are going to dominate the division after winning their first game against the Rams, the Eagles were scrutinized when they went on to dropped four games in a row. The star studded team failed to meed the demands of the fans that they will be a Super Bowl contender at the first half of the season.
However, with the emergence of the players to dig deeper and to be back in the fold of top caliber teams, Eagles are back when they showed resiliency in beating Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys respectively. Those games are crucial because both teams are in the same NFC East division. It may still be a question on how the Eagles will catch up New York Giants but they will have to do it one game at a time.
In the game against Dallas, LeSean McCoy rushed 185 yards in 30 carries as the Philadelphia Eagles pounded the ball on the ground. McCoy also had two rushing touchdowns to his credit. It was evident that the Eagles can be aggressive enough to win the game through ground game. Quarterback Michael Vick carried seven times also for 50 yards.
Vick also had a magnificent day in orchestrating the offense through his passes. Vick completed 21 of 28 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns. He played without error that helped the cause of the Eagles to keep playing without thinking on the interceptions or mistakes.
One of the biggest improvements in the Eagles game is their defensive capability of shutting down the opponent’s offense. The team yielded only 267 yards to the Cowboys which surely made the difference.
Truly, the road ahead for the Eagles is rough but it if they will live up to the expectations of many as a Super Bowl contender, then they will find themselves in the playoffs at the end of the regular season.
On the other hand, the Chicago Bears is also one of the hottest teams in the NFL winning their last two games against Minnesota and Tampa Bay. Bears are expected also to be in the playoffs but it is not going their way thus far.
In the previous game against Tampa Bay, Chicago relied on the running game of Matt Forte who rushed 25 times for 145 yards. He single-handedly derailed the defense of the Bucs that allowed the passing game of the Bears to be effective.
Jay Cutler completed 17 of 32 passes and one touchdown but two interceptions. Cutler still is the key component of the Bears to wind up victorious against the Eagles. If he will overcome the pass rush defense of Philadelphia, then we can safely say that his team will have the chance to beat the flying Eagles.
In the past games especially last year, Bears problem was on the offensive line’s inability to protect the quarterback. This will be again the problem they will have to face against the Eagles.
Bears defeated Eagles 31-26 last season giving the chance for Cutler to throw four touchdowns and surprisingly the Bears as a team had zero turnovers. It will be interesting to find out if the Bears can be on the offensive without turning the ball over on the road.
If Bears defense will be in play, then we will have a low scoring game. Expect for a physical game for both teams need this game so that they will have a better chance of pushing themselves into the playoff picture.
Bears concern will be to stop the rushing game of the Eagles. Stop Forte and Vick then you stop the offense of the Eagles. This Monday Night Football game of Bears vs Eagles will absolutely be filled with football actions.
