Schuylkill River Event On Saturday Will Raise $$ For African Water Project
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A walk on Saturday along Philadelphia’s Kelly Drive will raise funds to help an African valley get easier access to clean drinking water.
All proceeds from the second annual “Walk for Water, Walk for Life” event will go toward the construction of pipelines to bring clean drinking water to schools in the Rift Valley of Kenya.
Karen Young is director of the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center, which is organizing Saturday’s walk. She says this project is just one trying to help billions of people worldwide who don’t currently have access to clean water.
“Every dollar raised is intended to help build the pipeline that will go from a lake that is several miles away from the village. They’ll no longer have to spend their days fetching water — the distribution line will do that,” says Young.
