Baltimore detective charged with perjury

A Baltimore City police homicide detective has been charged with perjury Wednesday regarding an incident in January 2011, according to court documents.

Detective Anthony N. Fata faces four criminal charges, including misconduct and lying to get workers' compensation benefits.

Fata claims he was attacked while getting something from his car. At the time, police reported Fata wrestled with the assailant, described only as a black man, and was shot and wounded before the assailant fled.

The shooting happened at a garage at Water and Frederick streets, just a few blocks from the Inner Harbor.

Prosecutors charged Fata with lying about the incident. Court documents show Fata is accused of falsifying the story in testimony he gave to the Workers' Compensation Commission as he apparently tried to use the shooting to get benefits.

Fata is also charged with two counts of misconduct.

Shortly after the shooting last year, WBAL-TV 11 News reported there were questions about what Fata had claimed.

Despite intense investigation, little in the way of physical evidence was found to substantiate the presence of another person.

Fata was in the news before 10 years ago when city police officers were caught on tape confronting rowdy Preakness fans. Fata was seen on video punching a fan in the face.

Fata's career survived that incident.

Changing The Symbolism Of The Color Black

I am Van Stone, author and syndicated columnist, and I invite people from all intercultural backgrounds to join the Van Stone Productions Foundation. My hope is that, through the media, I can teach men, women, and children the importance of joining the organization Van Stone Productions Foundation (VSP) which helps to define the color “black.” I had exactly what VSP members were looking for when I used the admired works of Dr. Seuss’, “My Many Colored Days” to come up with the “Expression of Black” in the color black.

I assign colors to moods and emotions as was Dr. Seuss’ signature. VSP brings colors (nationalities), images (crafts), and partnerships (personal gender relationships) together as one family/community. I believe that black means happy. I like to say, "The thoughts of happy men generate good company for positive people."

"Unfortunately the color of black has been blamed for many tragedies. Such as dressing in black during school shootings, being black-listed or black-balled, evil, etc.," I'd also say, "The color black has been synonymous with many negative things and subconsciously the color black creates negative thoughts for many people.

I desire that the color black be re-designed and created in a whole new expression, just like green is for earth day, blue is for jean day, silver is for a 25th anniversary.

I have created a PEACE DAY for the wearing of the color black to stop unduly influencing people with the symbolism of the color black having negative connotations. On PEACE DAYS, all days are great for reading, honoring grandparents, doing any type of planting, telling close friends that you are glad to have them as a real friend, and hanging out in your library. PEACE DAYS are also for conversing about your favorite poems, realistic fiction, monsters, fantasy, fairy tales, mascots, or superheroes who may represent the color black. Then it would be good to draw the shape of a black rose or heart.
