The Philadelphia Front Page News is Philadelphia's online newsmagazine. It provides it all: news, sports coverage, informative stories, fun features, videos, games, upcoming events, entertainment reviews and a place for public discussion.
The Philadelphia Front Page News (FPN), now the Philly Live Show on Comcast TV channels 66 and 966 and/or Verizon Fios TV channels 29 and 30, is filled with adults and teens and seniors who volunteer working hard at what they do. The Live Show is a non-profit show that can yield great pride and feelings of accomplishment. More importantly, perhaps, it’s a bonding experience with other students and seniors.
Staffers have a good time in the FPN-TV-Studio for Television room and Video Editing & Field Videoing area but they keep an eye on the deadlines so they can create the best online publication possible. Of course, the deadline is well worth the pride of seeing their stories and photos on the website.
The Philly Live Show was produced for viewer publication beginning 6 months ago. More than 190,000 people visit the website www.fpnnews.us each week to get updates on the TV show. WWW.FPNNEWS.US regularly attracts readers from a number of foreign countries as well.
In addition to reaching a larger audience, going on TV gives The FPN staff a 30 minute space for stories, photos, slideshows, podcasts and more. The staff is still exploring creative ways to expand the multi-media experience on the television.
All of this requires technology, of course, and The FPN's Live Show is constantly expanding its resources. FPN-TV staffers currently have access to digital cameras and digital voice recorders. The FPN-TV newsroom, located in both Philly County and Delaware County, is equipped with computers that are loaded with powerful and versatile programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Flash, Audacity and Soundslides.
Indeed, The FPN-TV Programming is structured so that veteran staff members can guide the teens and seniors even as the new staffers bring fresh ideas and skills to the publication.
Some of the volunteer staff and others interested in being involved in television and video and photography are taking class with FPN mentors.
