Westside Weekly Newspaper Announces Return To Weekly Publication With New Additions by Van Stone Philadelphia Front Page News frontpagenews1@yahoo.com (610) 803-1624
Westside Weekly is back!
Westside Weekly 31 years later. It’s still the leading single edition news source, with unique sharp-edge coverage of current affairs, city life and West Philadelphia culture.
What’s new this time? You will find news and photos from the community in which you live along with coverage from adjacent communities.
Owner and Publisher Tyree Johnson, a former investigative reporter with KYW-TV and the Philadelphia Daily News, announced Sunday the Westside Weekly Philadelphia will return to publication. Westside Weekly newspaper is published weekly in Philadelphia.
Not expanding the number of days, it will continue to be printed, the return is planned for the week of Jan. 13, 2020. Residents and businesses will be able to pick up the first edition Friday, Jan. 17th.
The new schedule means the newspaper will be delivered to most of its former drop off locations Fridays. Of course, readers will be able to follow it online as before also.
“While online and mobile are important aspects, the printed news featuring West Philly neighbors remains the heart of our business and will likely remain so for some time,” Johnson said. He said the decision about four months ago to bring back printing one day a week was a popular one with long-time readers.
“We will continue to explore the online options and how to make that experience better for those who want to receive their local news that way too,” he said.
First and foremost, though, publishing one day a week, he said, will make it a better experience for those who prefer to read about their friends, neighbors and their communities via the printed word.
Once again, you are invited to join the paper’s efforts to support black owned businesses. The weekly, at 6253 Pine Street, has listed a variety of businesses, restaurants, retail stores and service providers it hopes readers will patronize.
“Some of our businesses have included a flyer or discount coupon to encourage you to shop,” Tyree says.
Strong as ever, Westside Weekly’s multimedia offerings include a weekly print tabloid; a robust selection of digital content, including blogs and social media; and event marketing that gives its readers an immediate connection to the news and information they need to live their lives.
Its in-depth journalistic approach since 1989 has contributed to making Westside Weekly the most widely read and highly anticipated read in the sections of both West and Southwest.
The 10,000-circulating print media publishes a different family story each week.
Johnson is excited for the Westside Weekly’s return because in 2020 there will be new additions such as articles written by guest columnist, contributor writers, and local and opinion news that will grab the attention of readers citywide and nearby Philadelphia suburbs.
The once a week free paper also better serves advertisers, giving them more options when planning their ad campaigns.
