Paul died from complications due to pancreatic cancer, his co-manager Beverly Gay confirmed to WTOP.
The Grammy award winning soul singer with the distinctive, gravely voice, is among the artists linked with Philadelphia’s special “soul” sound crafted by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.
“Me and Mrs. Jones” was a No. one hit for the last three weeks of 1972 and won Paul a Grammy.
The 80-year-old received birthday wishes from President Barack Obama on Jan. 19.
