PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police are investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a young girl in West Philadelphia.
It happened just before 10 a.m. Saturday inside a home along the 3800 block of Wallace Street in the Mantua section of the city.
Police say four children, ages 2-14, were inside the residence when one of the children got hold of a loaded, large caliber handgun that had been left unsecured and unattended in a second floor bedroom.
Authorities say, at some point, the weapon discharged and struck an 11-year-old girl in her right shoulder.
