The Americans are again on top of the women's soccer world.
Beating Japan 2-1 in a rematch of last year's World Cup final, the U.S. took its third straight Olympic gold medal Thursday.
The game also set a record for the largest audience ever for a women's Olympic soccer final: 80,203 fans watched live at Wembley Stadium.
With Thursday's gold medal, the US has won four of the five Olympic titles since women's soccer was introduced at the 1996 Atlanta Games. The US came second to Norway in the 2000 Sydney Games.
