TITANS USE BIG FOURTH QUARTER TO DOWN EAGLES

TITANS USE BIG FOURTH QUARTER TO DOWN EAGLES

Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid
talks with head linesman Mark Hittner
(28) in the second quarter of an NFL
football game against the Tennessee
Titans on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, in
Nashville, Tenn.

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Kenny Britt's career day of 225 yards and three touchdowns on seven receptions helped the Tennessee Titans pull off a 37-19 comeback victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kerry Collins, starting in place of an injured Vince Young, threw two interceptions, lost a fumble and finished with 276 yards on 17-of-31 throws for Tennessee (5-2), winners of three straight overall and 12 in a row against the NFC.

Chris Johnson was held to 66 yards on 24 carries, but it was the Titans' defense that came up big, forcing four turnovers and allowing just one first down in a fourth quarter they won, 27-3.

"You have to find ways to win ballgames, and we found a way to win the game with 27 fourth-quarter points," said Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, who is 4-0 in his career against the Eagles.

Kevin Kolb completed just 26-of-48 throws for 231 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, one of which Cortland Finnegan returned for a score to end a miserable final quarter for the Eagles (4-3), who were vying for a three-game winning streak.

David Akers, who missed three field goals in a win over Atlanta last week, made all four of his attempts in the loss.

The Eagles, as was the case throughout the game, stalled in the red zone early in the fourth and settled for a 28-yard Akers field goal to push their lead to 19-10.

"We learned a crucial lesson from this; when you have the opportunity to put a team away, you have to do it," Eagles head coach Andy Reid said.

On the next play from scrimmage, Collins found Britt behind the secondary en route to an 80-yard TD hookup with 13:13 remaining in the game.

After forcing a three-and-out, Britt, who was reportedly in a bar fight on Thursday and not in the starting lineup as a result, caught a 42-yard pass to set up Rob Bironas' go-ahead 38-yard field goal.

Another quick punt gave the Titans the ball back at their own 47. After two first downs, Collins found Britt in the middle of the end zone for a 16-yard score and a 27-19 lead with 5:03 remaining.

Neither team gained a first down with its next series, but the Eagles' Jorrick Calvin fumbled a punt at his 33-yard line with 3:37 remaining.

Tennessee ran off three-plus minutes and sealed the win with on a 33-yard Bironas field goal. Finnegan put the finishing touches on the resounding victory with a 41-yard interception return against lifeless opposition.

The Eagles won the field position battle in the first quarter and opened the scoring in the second on Akers' 25-yard field goal 2:51 in. The visitors converted three third down tries in the 14-yard, 45-yard scoring drive.

Both teams traded turnovers, as Collins lost a fumble in Eagles territory and a rushed Kolb threw a deep pass that Michael Griffin picked off easily.

Griffin returned the interception 28 yards to the Philadelphia 45, and after a roughing the passer penalty on Juqua Parker moved the chains on third down, Britt caught a 26-yard touchdown pass over Ellis Hobbs at the 6:29 mark.

Kolb ran for 15 yards on 3rd-and-14 to keep the next Eagles drive alive, then underthew Riley Cooper down the field on a reverse pass. The rookie wideout came back for the ball and made a diving grab in front of Titans safety Chris Hope at the Tennessee five. From that spot three plats later, Cooper caught a pass across the middle at the two and took it in for his first TD.

The TD came after the two-minute warning, but a Tennessee three-and-out resulted in a short field and the Eagles tacked on a 46-yard Akers field goal for a 13-7 halftime lead.

Akers hit another 46-yarder 3:46 into the second half, and Asante Samuel gave the Eagles the ball back at the Tennessee 41 by picking off an ill-advised Collins pass. The Eagles moved the ball inside the five, but Jason Jones disrupted a handoff between Kolb and McCoy, and Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner recovered the fumble under a pile of players at the three.

A pass interference penalty on Hobbs got the Titans out of their own end zone, and Britt's 34-yard catch down the left sideline preceded Bironas' 41-yard field goal with 1:18 left in the third.

Game Notes

Griffin has made an interception in four straight games...Britt has caught a touchdown in five straight contests...The Eagles, who have never beaten the Titans after they moved from Houston, had won three straight road games this season...LeSean McCoy gained 48 yards on 16 carries for the Eagles, who got a team-high 60 yards on six catches from Jason Avant..Philadelphia is on its bye next week, while Tennessee has a road tilt against San Diego.
